Gospel musician Empress Gifty has filed a defamation suit against Evangelist Patricia Asiedua over statements she published on social media.
Empress Gifty is seeking GH¢20 million as damages from Agradaa. Agradaa has been engaged in a ‘war of words’ on social media with Hopeson Adorye, the husband of Empress Gifty.
On May 13, 2025, Agradaa according to Empress Gifty went on social media (Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube) and in a live broadcast attacked her [Empress Gifty] and her husband Hopeson Adorye.
Empress Gifty indicated in the writ that the words used on her in their natural and ordinary meaning were understood to mean that:
a) The Plaintiff is promiscuous and a prostitute.
b) The Plaintiff is a zoophile who flirts with dogs to earn her money to cater for her husband.
c) The Plaintiff is an adulterous or an unchaste wife who has extramarital affairs with other men, and most of her paramours are pastors.
) Pastors who invite the Plaintiff to their programmes have sexual intercourse with her in their offices before the Plaintiff mounts the pulpit to sing.e) The Plaintiff is an imbecile.
She indicated that Nana Agradaa’s live broadcast sparked a wave of online backlash against Empress Gifty, with other social media users sharing and commenting on the content.
As a result, the statements have spread globally, appearing on various news portals and social media platforms, and continue to harm her [Gifty’s] reputation.
She further indicates that the widespread effect of the defendant’s words on her is that she has become the subject of discussion in the media and this she said has affected her children, who are taunted and ridiculed by their mates in school.According to the plaintiff, the defendant’s decision to broadcast her statements on social media has enabled other bloggers and social media influencers to capture and share the content with their own followers in real-time.
As a result, the said defamatory words spoken and published by Nana Agradaa have become widely disseminated across the internet, transcending geographical boundaries and reaching a vast audience worldwide.
