John Mahama, the flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has revealed a support package designed to boost Ghana’s 24-hour economy.
The strategy aims to invigorate businesses that operate day and night, featuring a range of strategic initiatives intended to increase demand for goods and services within this sector, contingent on the NDC’s election victory.
This announcement was made during the NDC’s manifesto launch in Winneba on Saturday.
Mr. Mahama emphasized that the package would be supported by substantial investments in infrastructure, security, and energy, which are vital for a flourishing 24-hour economy.
He pointed out that these investments would enhance both public and private security frameworks, creating a secure environment for both businesses and consumers.
A key element of the package is the introduction of a “Time-of-Use” tariff system, designed to offer more affordable and dependable electricity to businesses during off-peak hours. Mahama elaborated that this system would cut operational expenses and motivate businesses to prolong their operating hours.
Moreover, the NDC leader promised tax incentives aimed at reducing financial burdens on businesses and fostering their development. He committed to additional support for sectors such as agro-processing and manufacturing through the Ghana Exim Bank, which would provide financial aid to enhance exports and fortify the nation’s industrial foundation.
Mahama also addressed the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) functioning below their potential. He guaranteed that an NDC-led government would provide pivotal investments to assist these businesses in scaling up, generating employment, and making a more substantial contribution to the national economy.
