The Kitengela woman who allegedly chopped her baby into pieces has blamed low self-esteem for her actions.
Speaking to Nation shortly before she was arrested, Olivia Naserian said she hates herself for passing through difficulties with her daughter.
“Ninajichukia mwenyewe. Sijipendi ndio maana niliua mtoto wangu. Nimepitia magumu na huyu mtoto,” Naserian said.
(I hate myself. I suffer from low self-esteem and that is why I killed my child. I have gone through a lot with my daughter.)
Naserian, 24, a fourth-year Commerce student at a local university is alleged to have killed her child, Glory Njeri after she parted ways with the minor’s father.
According to police, the woman is said to have cut her baby into pieces before feeding on the intestines and kidney, in an incident that left locals speechless with rage.
Neighbours who heard the minor’s screams rushed to the house suspecting criminals had attacked the homestead only to find the young mother naked and violently attacking her daughter while singing nursery school rhymes.
The horrifying attack was captured on video by neighbours who tried in vain to break the door.
When the neighbours managed to break the door and get into the house, the toddler was already dead and the young mother had collapsed.
According to the neighbors, the parents of the young mother, who live in the same house, were not at home at the time of the incident.
She appeared before Chief Magistrate Jane Kamau on Tuesday who ordered that Naserian remain in police custody for another 10 days to allow police officers to complete their investigations.
The woman is expected to appear for the hearing on May 8.
