Today May 29, 2023, is an important day for many Nigerians as the new president is inaugurated and Buhari’s administration officially hands over power. The outgoing government hoped to launch the new national carrier Nigeria Air before leaving office, but it has been challenging.
Nigerian Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika promised to launch the carrier before May 29, but a court order stopped the project. Amid the legal battles, the airline’s first aircraft was unveiled to the public on Friday but later returned to Ethiopia, which has sparked controversy among stakeholders.
Nigeria Air requires an Air Operators Certificate (AOC) to begin commercial operations as planned. However, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has denied the airline the AOC and has been praised by other domestic operators.
