The Tongu Divisional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service led by D.S.P Olivia Turkson has embarked on a two-week road safety education campaign. The campaign which started on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, will cover major towns such as Sokpoe, Adidome, Akatsi, and Kpotame, all of which are along major highways in the Volta Region.
The campaign will focus on the enforcement of the wearing of seat belts, adherence to road signs, and the regularization of documents such as drivers’ licenses, roadworthiness certificates, and insurance.
DSP Olivia Turkson bemoaned the gross disregard for road traffic regulations, reckless riding, and noise pollution often created by moto riders when leading convoys to graveyards from funerals. She cautioned that such actions are not sanctioned by law and must be avoided.
Commuters who were engaged as part of the exercise have expressed their satisfaction and encouraged the Police to continue such educational programmes to reduce the carnage on our roads.
